7/2013, Re BIBLES for UK PUBLIC SCHOOLS: Trinitarian Bible Society -

"...Scriptures in the Schools
Once again, at the end of the academic
school year in the UK, opportunities have
arisen for the presentation of Bibles to
school leavers. Recently, a school in north-
west London unusually gave one of the
Society's UK Deputation Speakers as long as
an hour and twenty-five minutes to speak
to a group of about sixty pupils. (These
children, in their final year at primary
school, were all aged about eleven and
from diverse religious backgrounds.)
The time was put to good use in addressing
the children on the value and influence of
God's Holy Word. They heard the famous
account of the Welsh girl, Mary Jones, who
out of love for the Word walked twenty-six
miles to Bala for a Bible in the year 1800.
They were also told about the influence of
the preaching of the Word amongst the
cannibal Maori tribes of what we now call
New Zealand, preaching which transformed
those two islands. In addition, they were
taught to memorise John 3.16, to which
they responded with much enthusiasm.
